NASA's Earth Science Enterprise (ESE) is devoted to answering the question: 'How is the Earth changing and what are the consequences for life on earth?'" There are resources for kids, teachers and anyone interested in the science of Earth.
2. EarthTrends
An information packed site for finding data on all sorts of environmental topics like water resources, climate, population, energy, biodiversity etc. You can search by country, region, variable and year. They do require you to register the 1st time you use their site and the detail may be overwhelming. Not a place to go for general info on Earth Science, but a wonderful resource for those who need facts like the length of the coastline or the area of the continental shelf.
3. Earthquake Hazards Program
You may access earthquake information throughout history by using this database from the National Earthquake Information Center. Search: "Today in Earthquake History", "Earthquake Search", "Earthquake Information Sources" (includes a link to Education Information with lots of material for students and teachers alike), and an "Earthquake Email Notification Service".
4. Long Island's Natural Environment Online (LINE OnLINE)
This site is worth looking at even though much of it hasn't been updated in five years. The sections on Geology, Soil and Marine Ecology have useful local information.
5. Mineralogy Database
This database contains information on 4,225 different mineral species. Subtopics range
from definitions of "mineral" to pictures of minerals and an alphabetical listing of all the
mineral species with name origins, name pronunciations and synonyms of accepted
names.
6. Windows to the Universe
This site is a graphics intensive, comprehensive resource for information about Earth and Space Sciences. You may search it at 3 levels: elementary, middle and high school with middle school being the default.
